My Photography Theme Song

This song means a lot to me. I will post the lyrics below the video. I hope everyone can see how I relate this song to myself and my photography.

“Undiscovered”

I look at you, you bite your tongue
You don’t know why or where I’m coming from
But in my head I’m close to you
We’re in the rain still searching for the sun

You think that I want to run and hide
That I keep it all locked up inside but I just want you to find me

I’m not lost; not lost, just undiscovered
And when we’re alone we are all the same as each other

You see the look that’s on my face
You might think I’m out of place
I’m not lost, no, no, just undiscovered

Well the time it takes to know someone
It all can change before you know it’s gone
So close your eyes feel the way I’m with you now
Believe there’s nothing wrong

You think that I wanna run and hide
I’ll keep it all locked up inside
But I just want you to find me
I’m not lost, I’m not lost, just undiscovered
And when we’re alone we’re all the same as each other
You see the look that’s on my face
You might think I’m out of place
I’m not lost, no, no, just undiscovered

I’m not running
I’m not hiding
If you dig a little deeper you will find me

I’m not lost, not lost, just undiscovered
And when we’re alone we’re all the same as each other
You see the look that’s on my face, you might think that I’m out of place
I’m not lost, no, no, just undiscovered

I’m not lost, not lost, just undiscovered
And when we’re alone we’re all the same as each other
You see the look that’s on my face, you might think that I’m out of place
I’m not lost, no, no, just undiscovered

The Sweetest Photo Blog Post You’ll Read Today

I was out walking Asbury Park boardwalk with my camera this past weekend just looking for unique things to photograph. When I went into the retro candy shop for my monthly dose of fresh gummy bears all the colors, textures and shapes really caught my eye and my sweet tooth. Here’s what I came up with, made me feel like a kid all over again…

36 Excellent Photos of Local Fowl

This post is for the birds! :)

My Experience With Passion Works

Passion Works is an amazing company that helps our LOCAL down on their luck homeless people. 100% of ALL of the donations they receive go to the homeless, no one takes a penny as a paycheck of any kind. You donations whether they be monetary, cell phones, food or clothes are ESSENTIAL to help these people who  are HUMAN just like you or I and for Passion Works to continue their charity work.

Chuck and I have known each other for awhile now and get along very well together and we appreciate what each of us do. That being said I have donated my time and photography to Passion Works so I am now the staff photographer for Chuck and Passion Works. Chuck asked me if I would like to join him for a trip to tent city in Lakewood last Sunday. I wanted to see for myself what these poor people are going through. It was a very humbling experience to see people just like YOU AND ME that have fallen on hard times with losing their jobs, lack of work, losing their homes to foreclosure and more in addition to their cars. I can’t imagine how these people must feel being forced into this situation in many cases due to our horrible economy.

Below I’m posting photos of what I saw, most people and or faces are were not photographed to protect their privacy. As much as many believe these are still HUMANS that have rights and deserve their privacy just like us. If these photos don’t pull on your heart strings and make you want to help Passion Works with their mission you truly must be heartless. Think to yourself if you lost your job, car and home. What would you do with no one to turn to, no outside family members for help. How would you feed your children? How would you put a protective roof over their heads. As proud locals we NEED to help our own LOCAL people in need.

Please follow Passion Works on Twitter @PassionWorks “like” and follow their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/PassionWorksUSA And their own website: http://www.passionworksusa.org/ Most of all PLEASE make donations, an old cell phone, an old car, food, clothes, $5, $10, anything you can give will help WAY MORE than you realize.

Spreading this blog post around would be a huge help, we ask you to do this as a favor…. Thank you, Scott

From Snow and Sleet to the Beauty of the Sun

It’s been a rough winter so far between snow, sleet, rain, cold and gray clouds.. We’re expecting more of the same this coming week but this was a beautiful treat in between the nastiness that reminds me spring is only 41 days until spring. The progression of a sunrise..

“Lost, yesterday, somewhere between sunrise and sunset, two golden hours, each set with sixty diamond minutes. No reward is offered for they are gone forever.” -Horace Mann

The Future Jamie O’Brien or Andy Irons?

I have to laugh when I see kids like this, brings me back to my own childhood, it’s nice to reminisce sometimes. Then you have to sit back while photographing this little ham…. is he.. could he be.. does he have the desire… or what it takes to be the next Jamie O’Brien or Andy Irons? I hope he heas dreams of this soon and follows through.

You can tell he’s STOKED with his skimboard success!

13 Great Recent Surfing Photos

I shot about 100 photos of these surfers last week, but these are my favorites.. It was a great day of swell in between major flat spells.

One more round?

Sun is going down.. It was a long 3 hour cold water surf session. Caught some great barrels, had a blast with a few good friends. You pack it up, grab your gear and start to walk back to your car. Stop on the boardwalk and have no choice but to look back at the waves that were so good to you. In the light of dusk, you look through the dunes, through the reeds and you can barely see more barrels rolling in and think to yourself….. One more round?

Photo of the Day 1-20

We’re expecting another 4-6″ of snow starting tomorrow. For that reason I think I appreciated today’s sunrise a little more than I normally do. After shooting some photos I just sat on one of the boardwalk benches and watched the sun rise, rise, rise.. By far the best time of the day for me.

“You don’t need somebody to interpret for you what a beautiful sunrise it is.”

It’s Worth Carrying Your Camera All The Time..

I don’t there’s a time or place I go where I don’t have one of my cameras within arms distance. It was just habit but then became fun because you just never know what you’ll see or run into during your travels even just out for a drive or out to the stores.. Here’s why I was glad I brought mine today.

My Favorite iPhone Photography Apps

Often I’m asked what photography apps people should get for their iPhone. I usually ask what they’re looking to do first because there are thousands of photography apps in iTunes and hundreds more added every few days. My first suggestion is if it’s FREE get it and play with it. If you like it it BAM you just found a great app. If you don’t like it just delete it quick and easy. Browse through the photography category in iTunes and see if anything catches your eye. ALWAYS read the feedback, you don’t have to follow it but if 100 out of 125 people say it stinks, follow their advice. I could easily list and review 100 or more apps below but I’m going to keep it short and sweet and hope you all have fun with these. :)

Below are a few I use regularly that I thought I’d share and hope you get some use out of. (not in any particular order)

#1 Is Hipstamatic: A very popular app that gives you choices of lenses to use, film to use, a flash to use and plenty of add ons for an additional fee. You can post your photos to Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr, send as an email or save to your library. It even stores photos within the app itself if you’d like to save or change them for a later date.

#2 Plastic Bullet: Right off the bat you can start with a new photo or a photo out of your library. Once you take the photo or use one from your library Plastic Bullet gives you thousands and thousands of options to choose from just going page by page for different effects for the same photo. Not all are great but many are kind of funky and I like the effects. Super easy to use, just favorite the photo you like to your library and done.

#3 Photo Studio: Photo studio let’s you take a new photo or use an existing one. From there you can crop, rotate, gamma, or add one of 181 effects to your photo and make adjustments. You can even apply one effect over another if you want! When you’re done you can save it to clipboard, photo album, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr or email it. Lots of options within this app.

#4 Instagram: Nicely designed app where you can set up your own profile and post to the “popular” Instagram wall. Once you take your photo or choose from your library, you can scale the photo, add 12 effects, add captions and add to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Flickr, Posterous and even foursquare. Great app for a mini photo Tumblr blog.

#5 DipTic: Personally I love this app. With a little imagination there’s a LOT you can do here. Diptic allows you to two photos side by side or one over another. Good choice of layouts, effects and you can either email your photos or save them to your library. For an additional fee you can buy additional layouts. As an exampleI did a side by side photo, one saide looking to the left of the beach, the other looking to the right. So when you look at the final projects you see both sides in one photo, very cool.

#6 Crop For Free: This is self explanatory and works very well.

#7 Pro HDR: If you’re looking for the HDR effect without all the work of a DSLR this app will do it for you with your iPhone. App works well. You pick 2 photos (the same one) from your library and it will take the highs and lows, combine them and give you options to give the photo the optimal effect you’re looking for. You can either take pics for your HDR or use library photos. Once you’re done you can either save it to library or email the photo.

#8 iBlurb: Totally for fun! Take a photo from your library and add a “thought” or “speaking” cloud and make it say whatever you want! Change colors, make larger or smaller, place the blurb wherever you like. I’ve had a lot of fun with this app with friends and family. You can add a date, email or save your photo when you’re done.

Another Snowy Beach Day

Well we didn’t get near as much snow as we all expected but it still made for some beautiful pictures this morning.

“Snow Berries”

The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach waiting for a gift from the sea. ~Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Inner Peace at Sunrise

Pull up a chair, grab your coffee/tea and take a few minutes to start your day right. :)
