Photo Of The day: “Live Like You Were Dying”

An interesting metaphor about different aspects of life. I took the photo below in Loch Arbor the day Hurricane Earl hit the Jersey Shore.

“The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choice-less as a beach waiting for the sea.”

-Ann Morrow Lindbergh

6am – 7am Is A Magical Time At The Beach

There is no time of the day that is more magical than the golden hour on the beach.

Nothing really to say, I’ll let these photographs from this morning (11/18/11) speak for themselves.

18 Recent Breathtaking Sunrises Over The Ocean

I thought I’d put together a short post of recent sunrises. In case you missed them in my posts, here are 18 of the latest ones.

“The grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.” ~John Muir

Life Lesson – Tides Change

“When you get into a tight place and it seems that you can’t go on, hold on — for that’s just the place and the time that the tide will turn.”
– Harriet Beecher Stowe

No Need For Unnecessary Suffering

Don’t take anything personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

Take more time to relax and be alone. It’s great for the soul to do nothing but stare at something you love and let your mind drift away.

Hurricane Irene Damage in Ocean Grove

Just a few photos and a video of the damage that Ocean Grove beach and the fishing pier took during Hurricane Irene.

Someone once said…

Someone once said – “There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living.”

Photo Of The Day: Fight For Pylon Rights

It was really interesting to watch these two go at it fighting for pylon rights. It went on for close to 20 minutes before the one on the pylon gave in.

30 Great Photographs From Allaire State Park

I had an opportunity to take a short trip to Allaire State Park on a recommendation from a friend. I’m very glad I listened because it was a great day filled with interesting history from the 1700′s, 1800′s and 1900′s. I only stayed for a few hours but could have stayed the entire day with all of the photographic opportunities this park offers the public.

Not only was everyone informative and friendly, I was able to see an old fashioned wedding being performed, I picked a good day to go. The wedding was in the on grounds church where the bride and groom were brought in by two amazing Clydesdale horses pulling a black and red, flower covered carriage. After that I went to see the old steam engine trains, some in use, some not but both were interesting.

Looking across the field I spotted a group of three deer. I quickly changed lenses and the hunt was on. I ran, ducked, bobbed and weaved my way through the woods trying very hard to stay upwind from the now larger group of five deer. They would stop and I was able to knock out a few photographs and off they went again with me following. After about 3-4 times of this happening I was running and as I stepped I heard this loud screech and thought I stepped on an animal. As I looked back carefully I stepped about one foot to the right of a fawn buried in a bed of fresh greens.  I walked slowly as not to scare it even more and took a few quick shots. It didn’t seemed phased so I put my hand out slowly and pet it’s head and back. All was good then *poof* she took off like a rocket. I followed her and got a few more shots then spotted another one bedded down in a similar bed. I took photos and spotted the parents. More photos of them and that pretty much ended an exciting and amazing experience.

It was a GREAT day and if you haven’t been I highly recommend you go. There are walking and bicycling trails, a lot to learn, food and drinks and beautiful scenery. You can see the many more photos I took from this day on my website at http://www.bbphotography.net/History/Allaire-State-Park/17414381_6hVfpq

June 1st Clouds and Lightning

Well Monmouth County was under a severe thunderstorm and tornado warning until 8pm. I was all excited as always being the adrenalin junkie, storm chaser I am. Batteries charged, cameras ready, rain wear by the door and bathing suit on. Unfortunately the storm broke apart for the most part and no tornado’s touched down in NJ. From the sand in Bradley Beach I was able to get these cool cloud and lightning photos.

Rob Machado At The Stone Pony

So surf legend Rob Machado decided to grace the Jersey Shore last Friday 4-29. It was awesome to have him here, I spoke with him during and after sound check at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Super mellow, down to earth guy. It was my pleasure to meet and speak with him for a little while. Surfrider was one of the sponsors for this show and did a great job educating locals on some issues we’re having here in N.J.

Here are just of a few of my favorite photos I took of Rob. You can see the entire photo gallery at BBPhotography.net

A Relaxing Day on Long Beach Island

We decided to take a day off and go relax on LBI. A great nearby place to go and explore. We stopped at the famous shack, checked out some surf shops, the commercial fishing marina’s (my favorite) and of course Barnegat Lighthouse. That climb to the top of the lighthouse once again reminded me how out of shape my thighs are, muscle burn, burn, burn.

I’ve been watching this decaying shack since I was 12 and it’s still standing. I wish a historical society would step in to save it before it’s all gone.

Off to the commercial fishing marina.

Then we headed over to the lighthouse. At some point I’d like to visit every lighthouse in the country.

A bit of history on the Barnegat Lighthouse.

A commercial fishing boat passes while I was at the top of the lighthouse.

View of the island from atop the lighthouse.

If you’re looking for a great day trip or spend a weekend or week, LBI has everything you

whether you’re an adult or will be taking children. Go and enjoy!

Surfing in Black and White

I’ve always loved black and white photography, it’s what I started and learned with. I don’t think I’ll ever stop shooting black and white for the depth and feeling it brings to photos. That being said, here’s 12 surfing photos in black and white..

Surfing, alone among sports, generates laughter at its very suggestion, and this is because it turns not a skill into an art, but an inexplicable and useless urge into a vital way of life. ~Matt Warshaw
